So my friend and I have been to heck and back trying to solve issues.

The first problem solved was the PSU not powering everything, the PSU he got before was a Rosewill 850w and it arrived DOA. So taking the trip to bestbuy he got a 850W Corsair from in store.

So he has a 970 and tried it on the Corsair... the fans started spinning, and then after a minute they stop. So we thought the 970 was the issue and went back to best buy to get another, but after testing the second 970 the fans started but stopped spinning after a minute. And only using a DVI cable, my friend's maximum resolution was 800x600 but he cant get 1080p on the monitor even though the monitor supports 1080p.

All connectors are fine, the 24 pin mobo, the 8 pin on the top left of the mobo, and any hard drive or solid state drive, and the 6 pin to 8 pin going to the GPU.

My friend switched out to molexes but it does the same thing as on the regular connections. The fans spin for a minute then stop, and he can only get 800x600 on a dvi cable.

GIGABYTE G1.Sniper H6
EVGA GTX 970
Corsair CX850W
Intel i5-4690k

We messed with the bios, but never tried to update any of them.

And we installed all the default stuff from the cd that came with the G1 sniper H6. But if your're referring to video drivers, no because I'm just concerned that the 970 or mobo is causing us problems since the fans aren't spinning on the 970.

Oh yeah, the 24 pin is snug fit on the side, the 8 pin is connected in the top left of the mobo, the 8 to 6 pin adapter is in GPU, and the hdds and ssds are getting power.

It's just the 970 fans stop spinning after a few minutes of run, and my friend doesnt want to burn out the card before using it. And we havent ran the cd yet because we are concerned with the fans not spinning while the PC is operating.

I know it might sound stupid, but did the GPU fit snugly and snap correctly into the PCIE slot?

Use the discrete/CPU graphics for now if you want to be on the safe side while installing the cd and stuff. Is there another system you can try the GPU in and another GPU you can try in this system?

It fits snug, and is fine in the slot. It's not bent nothing causing it to bend.

I had my rig down there, didnt think to try his in mine.

Bad GPU? This is the second one he bought, but it did come from the same store so possibly.

I have heard of people getting two and three bad GPUs and other parts in a row. Even from different sources. I guess sometimes there are super unlucky ones and even bad batches that get out.

yeah, try switching around GPUs in the two systems and that should help determine the GPU or not being the issue.

Alright Ill test his in mine.

okay. You may end up having to mess with drivers depending on what GPUs you are using and such...but let's hope it works or does not work. If it works, then I would suggest switching PSUs next to see if that may be the issue of the GPU not getting enough power to it or something like that.

Either way, you should end up being able to rule out motherboard, psu, and gpu when it is all said and done.
