Im now struggling between z97 and x99 because I heard x99 support ddr4 and people said its really unnecessary.I'm gonna use Intel i7 4790k, Msi gtx980ti, 8gb hyperx and plan to upgrade to 16gb.
So which one is the better choice.
If x99 which motherboard would you recommend in the $250 budget
if z97 which motherboard will it be still in the $250 budget.
I heard other said that asus VII hero is the best choice out there for z97. And i have little knowledge of x99. Please help I'm new to this

Solution
It depends on what your going to be doing with the PC. For just gaming get a 4690K, streaming and gaming, 4790K
Mostly work programs then the 5820K would be best.
For that motherboard not what I would buy or recomend, to me gimmicks and overpriced (all ROG boards)
If you wish to stick with Asus look at the Z97 A USB3.1 for a bit lower price the GB Z97 gaming 5 is also a good board.
For getting 16gb of momery buy it now in a 2X8GB set the prices are low.

How about the newly-released mainstream Z170 platform (Skylake)? It's the next "iteration" on from Z97, and supports a few more PCI-E lanes, as well as DDR4...

To be honest, for gaming, there isn't really (much of) a benefit to X99 - it's more aimed at applications which are limited by memory bandwidth, or core count (omitting the more PCI-E lanes for the moment) - most games aren't CPU-bound on a quad-core i5/i7 these days.

x99 or z97? Neither.

I already have an i7 4790k sitting in my room waiting for the motherboard and the graphics card. Already decided on graphics card either gigabytes gtx 980ti or the newest msi gtx980ti. But not the motherboard

Newegg is selling the might ASRock Z97 OC Formula for $160 after rebate. If you intend to overclock this is a true bargain.

The Intel i7-4790K has integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 graphics processor on its CPU die. You can use that type of motherboard without needing to have a discrete graphics card installed. It can be used for troubleshooting graphics card related problems.

If your discrete graphics card fails the integrated graphics can be used temporarily while you wait for the arrival of a working discrete graphics card.
