So I think I decided to build a new PC. I am hoping to just buy a new motherboard, CPU and GPU and use the rest from my current build. Possibly new ram too? Below is my current set up. Any suggestions on what I should replace and what I should keep?

• Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 3.3GHz
• GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel
Motherboard
• XFX Double D Radeon HD 6950 DirectX 11 HD-695X-CDFC 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5
• CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
• CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750M 750W
• Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan
• Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard
Drive Bare Drive
• NZXT Phantom PHAN-003RD Red White Finish w/Red Trim Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX
Full Tower Computer Case

I also have a 256gb SSD

Thanks!

4.0ghz is stupid simple. Just set CPU multiplier to 40, in the bios, and touch nothing else. A GTX 1070 would fit that budget, and would make a vast improvement to gaming.

You may need to do a bios update first.

Going with a new setup, you are going to have a far inferior gaming machine.

Thanks for the response. It is intended for gaming. I have not overclocked the CPU as this was my first build and I'm scared to try :)

I would like to stay between $300-$600 for upgrades if I can.

Thanks.

Sorry one more question. I am new to all of this. How hard is it to update my bios? I heard you can easily brick your system if you mess something up. How will I know if I need to update or not?

It is generally not a difficult process. Sometimes bricking does occur. Fortunately your board is a dual bios equipped one. You can go into the bios and look at your revision, vs what the gigabyte listing has available. I do believe you are going to need the latest revision.

Thanks for the response. The link you posted has the most current bios update as a beta stating I will have to disable some features before implementing it. Should I go this route or do you think I will be fine using the update before the beta?
