Building a new system (Need help!!)

Hello,
I've been wanting to built a system by myself for quite sometime now.
This would be my first time building a system from scratch and would need someone to verify whether the parts I have chose are compatible with one another and whether there are better products out there with a slight variation in price.

My budget's around $1000 (Australian Dollars)

PSU: Cooler Master GX 750W
CASIS: Cooler Master HAF 922
MOBO: ASUS M5A97
PROC: PHENOM II X6 1055T HEXA 2.80ghz
PROC Cooler: Cooler Master N620
GRAPHICS: SAPPHIRE HD6950
RAM: 4GB Kingston HPX DDR3 1600 C9 Twin DX3 (A total of 16GB)
HDD: Western Digital 2.0TB (Black Caviar) 6GB, 64MB
OPTICAL DRIVE: Lite-On SATA 24x

The purpose for the computer will be for gaming. And would I be able to play all the current games on very high setting?

Really though i5 would be better for gaming

and with a single card all ya need is probably 600W if that.

Do ya need a 2tb now? you could save some money there too, 1 tb will hold TONS of games

Linking to the site you are going to buy from would be nice. Also with 1000.00 you'd be better off going with a i5 2500k and a z68 motherboard for gaming. The 2500k is the king gaming cpu right now and will do you perfectly for gaming. total in cpu and z68 you will have about 400 bucks in it but it will perform much better plus if you buy a 30-40 heat sink it will oc to about 4.5 pretty easily. And 8 gigs would do you great for gaming for a while i'd drop to 8 gigs of 1333 ram as intel will void your warranty for anything higher.

having trouble finding a power supply but that essentially leaves ya $255 for the case and PSU (500-600W) and 1 tb HD which should be plenty. If you can throw in a couple extra bucks it would make a huge difference to get a non-stock cooler for the CPU too.

Thats what I could find from that site, not sure what is popular in Australia. Also, take a look at an gtx560ti would be cheaper and give ya a little bit more breathing room. Your PC will be able to adequately handle nearly all the games available today at 1920x1080 w/ high settings

this is pretty much the same as my system runs everything on very high to ultra including bf3, 16gig rams even though cheap is a waste and i havent found 2 game to use over 6gig of my 8gig and just get 1 tb hdd its more than enough,keep ur movie collection elsewhere lol, not being a fanboy of intel but the 2500k slaughters anything that amd has on the market then the overclocking i dont need to say anymore, you dont need a z68 chipset for gaming p67 will do everything as well all it doesnt have is is quicksync and i reckon you would be hard pressed to find 2% of people that would actually use this tech. all this stuff was from msy.com.au everywhere in australia this is where i get all my stuff from in qld

total $1053 you can drop $ by changing hdd's a black is quicker but wont affect your gaming and with an intel system you could also save cash on case if need be you dont need a haf to keep a 2500k cool also if you had no intention of cfx you could drop to a 600 w psu

I have made up my mind to switch to an i5-2500k, but would prefer an asus mobo with UEFI Bios.

And im gonna safe a bit of money and dismantle my 2tb external hdd and use it as primary.

Which graphics card would you recommend, I chose the hd6950 as I've read a lot of good reviews about that card.

That is a great card, you wouldn't be disappointed. I would say this build would last you over 4 years with good house keeping (clearing dust, don't spill soda on it, etc). Gaming specs may change but you could always upgrade the GPU. That processor will last a while.

There may always be a faulty part, that estimation is based on good parts.

It should do you a few years at the least. plus the new ivy bridges are supposed to be 1155 as well so later on you could just replace the cpu and heat sink and gpu as opposed to other options that would have you getting a new motherboard as well. But the i5 2500k over clocked should be golden for 3 years at the least i would guess. Unless games and such took some giant leap in their required cpu's which i don't see happeningas they would not sell half as many games then.

6950 is all good, just for competions sake the gigabytes have there hybrid bios basically you boot it up with stock settings and then install the program then you adjust your bios through windows works flawlessly for me, i will never buy another asus product had to many of there motherboards die on me and they are were always terrible for me personally with warranty. they do have a very good name for themselves though

(I might need to use a pci for a wireless network card)

Go with the Sapphire HD6950 - that company is known to make lasting stable parts.

Whichever Mobo is cheaper, Like Jason said you wont be using quicksync or SSD Caching (on the z67).
You can't really go wrong with either of those boards.

Case - you can't go wrong once again, but if you don't like bright LEDS on all the time I would go with Corsair 400r. Would not be too big of a deal.

As for the network card, you can get a USB wireless adapter, they are decent enough and cheap but you sacrifice 1 USB port - I know someone would disagree with me on this, so remember, this system is for you and should make you happy!

If I am reading that chart correctly, I would go with the Powercolor 6950 2Gb for $259. the relative difference in price is negligible. At least I didn't see the $50 difference.

the 2gb card isnt any quicker at all unless u are running serious resolutions eg 3 monitors together even then maybe a frame or 2 at the most

i wouldnt get either of those mobos they are cheap ones and i wouldnt expect them to clock to good i would rather the one i suggested any day i personally have the gigabyte hd6950oc its a solid quiet and cool card
