Guys I am building a pc for myself, to do good amount of video editing and rendering for my youtube channel. I have been searching for processors for a very long time but the more i look the more i get confused regarding them. I have finally got along with amd FX8370. I would like to know whether it will be good or not since it is cheap and provides 8 cores with a clock speed of 4GHz. I have chosen geforce gtx 970 by evga clocked at 1.17GHz with 4GB VRAM for graphics. Since I will be editing my gaming videos so i guess the games could easily run with this system. Also since I am a student I am using programs like MATLAb and SABER sketch which are both used for modeling and simulation purposes. I guess my final question would be that the processor i have chosen is that good or should i go with i7 4790k as it may cost me around 250 dollars more along with motherboard?

I use a Fx-8320 and a GTX 970 on a asus sabertooth 990fx board and I use premiere pro cc 2014. my chip handles my music video editing like a champ. the gtx 970 helps with timeline scrubbing so you don't have to rerender as much to watch what you have done but it only helps with rendering/export when have a lot effect gpu depended effects on your timeline and cuts down on the time. if there are no effects that need gpu assistance then it wont need your gpu and fully max out your cpu. I don't overclock I just use the turbo boost to put me at 3.8 and make sure you get as much ram as you can I have 16g and it really makes a difference compared to the 8 I had in my old machine with a Athlon II x4 645.

Here is my rig...
The FX-8370 is pretty good, but you could just go with the FX-8320 to save some money and overclock it. If you can afford the i7 4790k, I HIGHLY recommend going with that processor. It is very good, but you will be just fine with an FX-8320 or FX-8370.

Intel is out of the question. Unless he can afford a 5820k. Remember hes doing video editing.

Yes, I know. That's why I said "If you can afford it".

and what about the graphics card. I am not able to find a motherboard for 8370 with pci express gen 3. So i have to stick with gen 2. will this affect the performance of my gpu. and what d you suggest should i go with gtx 960 or 970. also I have heard about the problem of 3.5gb vram in gtx 970. could u pls help me understand what it is all about?

The gtx 970's vram is split in two, one part with 3.5gb with full speed and 0.5gb of slower vram after the first are used. It's no big deal however, since the performance loss of a gtx 980 is similar when using over 3.5gb. Pcie gen2 doesn't hold current gpu's back.
As for the cpu, the fx 8370 (8320, rather) is a great choice for editing videos or building/compiling/calculating in the environments you mentioned. An I7 4790k is obviously stronger, but the price increase wouldn't really justify the expense.
Now, what the fx certainly isn't good for is single core or fpu heavy performance, which is what games ask for. For a gaming rig, an I3 would be a better choice, but the fx will absolutely crush it in the major other circumstances you mentioned.
Therefore, if you can't afford an I7, the fx is going to be your best bet.

It's a good $150+ extra for a ~15-20% (50-60% single thread) performance leap. Decision if the money stepping for the I7 is worth it. Personally, since gaming is not a big thing for me, I'd go with the fx and a cheaper gpu.

No AMD motherboard supports PCI 3.0 yet. PCI 2.0 will still work. The 3.5GB of VRAM is not a problem at all, 3.5GB is more then enough VRAM for gaming, do not underestimate the power of a 970 over the amount of VRAM. My conclusion, get an FX 8370 if you are doing rendering, or if you want something a bit more pricey a 5820k. For your GPU go with a GTX 970 again doesnt matter what PCI version it is, it will still work.

PCIe Gen 3 is not even fully utilized yet. You will see no difference in performance from the two slots. I would go with the 970, if you can. I believe some 970's have a problem with allocating memory for some applications with the 0.5gb being slower, but it's not really a problem.. If you are afraid of this issue I would go with the 960.

The gaming part is not too much for me, I just play counter strike global offensive. and my gaming videos and streaming will be for the same game. I dont play alot of games myself so i guess 8370 should be perfect. But i was a bit confused over gpu between r9-290X or gtx 970. both have 4 gb but which will be better for rendering coz i am sure both will be excellent for CSGO.

will a single 960 be good for my rendering purpose or may be 2way sli of 960 or single 970. i ask so as 960 is in 2gb versions.

Rather one than two gpu's. If the gtx 970 or the r9 290x will be faster depends on the software. Sony vegas prefers opengl, so the r9 290x starts to shine. Adobe premiere works better with cuda cores (gtx 970). After all if the only game you play is cs:go, you don't need such a strong gpu and the wiser decision would be to push the money towards a stronger cpu. Or just save it up. My gtx 660ti caps cs:go at 299-303 fps all the time, same goes for a friends 765m and another friends hd7970.

I would go with the single 970.

Here is my rig http://pcpartpicker.com/b/bdPscf and I vouch for AMD with editing and btw I get 60fps in far cry 4 on ultra and 80-90 in Call of Duty advance warfare with my setup no issues.
