Hey guys,

I'm helping a friend of mine who needs a workstation system that mostly does rendering in Blender.
Therefore he wants to start with 2 2080 ti's but also wants to be able to put another one into the system in the future.

After doing some more research about what platform has a good price to performance ratio i had 3 options in worked out:

Z390:
CPU; i9 9900k
RAM: 16GB Dual Corsair VEngeance LPX LP DDR4-3200 CL16
MB : Asus ROG Maximus XI

X370/X470:
CPU: R5 2700x
RAM: 16GB Dual Corsair VEngeance LPX LP DDR4-3200 CL16
MB: Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero or Asus ROG Crosshair VII Hero

TR4:
CPU: Threadripper 1950X
RAM: 16GB Quad G.Skill RipJaws V DDR4-3200 CL16
MB : MSI X399 SLI Plus

But i am not sure if the non Threadripper platforms/mainboards even support 3 or more single graphic cards.

Hope you can help me on this one and give me some information i could find yet :)

Solution
First of all 3 x 2080Ti is not possible unless he plans on using the third as dedicated card instead of SLI for productive purpose. There is no NV-Link bridge supporting 3 cards.

But if he plans to use it for productive purpose then he should go with X299(Intel) or X399(AMD) boards supporting three 16xPCIe slots.
