Building Computer With no Optical Drive

Hello everyone, I am building a computer without an optical drive so I can't install Windows 8 using a dvd. I know how to create the bootable flash drive and all that, I have ubuntu and Windows 10 insider on my laptop with windows 7 as my main OS so I know how to do all that. What I was wondering is, if I buy a Windows 8 dvd (cheaper than buying the download key) could I use the key that it comes with to download windows 8 to a usb and install it that way?
