Hey guys this is my first post so I apologize for all the noob that may ensue,

Im in the process for shopping for parts to build a gaming PC. My budget is 1000 but ideally spending below that would be awesome. So far I have in mind a few products I want to get:

Processor: intel core i5 2510M
Videocard: EVGA GeForce gtx 580

I know the list is short but Im being a bit meticulous about the things I pick. I have a general understang of things but Im up in the air about which mobo and the appropriate PSU for it. What a good amount of memory may be. I plan on playing games like skyrim and SC2 if that helps at all.

Also how can you gauge the size of the case that you may need

I would appreciate it if you guys could just give me directions to look in. I dont think that I would benifit a whole lot by you guys just telling me things and me buying them. I really want this to be a learnign experience and Im pumped to start getting everything together.

Also if the two parts above are for whatever reason not the best alternative let me know.

Any suggestions welcome!!!

Thanks in advance all

Welcome to Tom's Forum! :)

The i5-2510M is a Notebook and not a desktop CPU, and any build using a GTX 580 you'll need to double your budget. A GTX 580 all by itself is $470+ USD.

Now if '1000' is some other currency then please let us know, and if you're outside the US then please provide links to places you shop.

Sorry one last thing. Do you know the reliability of the board? Im reading reviews on it now and a lot of people seem to get ones that are DOA. I dont really plan on OC but Im sure this board would be good if i plan to in the future but do you think there is a better board within the same range that doesnt OC.

my main concern is its longevity.

Anytime you see multiple DOA MOBO's then know this <2% are 'real DOA' or 2% of 2% of etc is nearly impossible. Like any P67/Z68 the first thing to do is update the BIOS. Then read the manual and use the correct DIMM slots in this case the Blue slots.

There's not one MOBO out there that ever has a 100% 5-Star feedback review. The ASUS P8P67 PRO is a very high volume selling MOBO and if you have 100 folks buy one or any MOBO then at most 1 of 100 will report any feedback and mostly 9/10 bitches. Next, since it's also a cheaper good MOBO you have a lot of noobs rendering feedback overlooking their inability to build. NewEgg has a good video and before installing any MOBO into its' case builders always breadboard (minimal configuration outside the case) before fully installing into the case, the extra few minutes of time insures the basic components are indeed good and in working order. If there was a verified 'bad batch' NewEgg is very good about temporarily Deactivating a component; they more than anyone doesn't want the aggravation.

Therefore, I wouldn't be concerned and take the steps to properly build your system. Don't be in any rush and carefully read, not just the pictures, the installation portions of ALL manuals.
