Hey guys,

So I have a fx4130 and a hd7770 atm. I want to play games 1080p on a single monitor. I was broke at the time so i have invested in amd and the windows key is OEM so I doubt ill be changing any time soon.

I have two upgrade options:

Get another asus hd7770 n cf and get a fx8350

or

get a Hd7970 or a nivida equivalent but the free games is tempting. Also is physx just a gimmic? how many games really have it?

Many thanks,

Crazypigs

PhysX is a physics API. It creates realistic physics and particle effects to make the game look better. I would go for the first option. Here is a motherboard and PSU recommendation for the FX 8350 and HD 7770 Crossfire -

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

It's not glitches, it's micro-stuttering you need to worry about. AMD has sorted this out with the latest beta drivers, so you should be fine. Plus, 2 HD 7770s in Crossfire do tend to scale very well.

hmmm. So you think the 1gb though will last for another couple of years? I am planning to play on my 42 inch TV so I don't know if that'll mean more vram.
I only have the 1gb version so a cf with a 2gb would be pointless. I want to be able to play metro 2033 and rome total war 2 on max settings or close enough

Unless the 2GB card is your main card, it would be pointless. You should be fine running rome Total way and Metro, though both titles are incredibly demanding.

omg didn't know that! ok so would two hd7770 be about as good as a hd7870 and also do most games newer games support cf? i remember reading on another forum that two hd7770 is a bad idea because its a low end card? Also would a fx8350 show good improvements or should i just overclock my fx4130? Its overclocked to 4ghz atm on a artic freezer 13. I was worried that overclocking might cause the motherboard to heat up.

It isn't a bad idea, as 2 HD 7770s in Crossfire scale very well up to almost a HD 7950. With an FX 8350, you will see a dramatic increase in performance. And yes, an Arctic cooling Freezer 13 will cool that chip fine, even when overclocked. A motherboard will only burn out if there is a CPU that has a higher TDP than the motherboard can support.
