I'm building my first gaming PC and I've gone through several changes to what I am going for. I'm trying to build a PC that has i5 for some of my video editing needs, but my editing isn't that major. With the inclusion of a monitor, keyboard, OS, and the PC itself, I want to keep my price range around 900-1000 dollars. I will go slightly above 1000 dollars, and considering that I'm not likely to buy from some retailers, I will end up buying it for 1000+ plus anyways. So, any suggestions for my build?

you will have...
- you need a Z97 board for OC, the K cpus can be OC
- go for i5-4460 + H97 + stock cooler board if you are not going to OC and spend more on GPU
- Go for 1TB if possible
- Go for GTX 960 if you are going with i5-4690K + Z97 + non-stock sooler
- i personally prefer Bitfenix Prodigy for an ITX build
- that corsair PSU will be fine for normal usage but not for OC, go for better quality PSU if you are going to OC
- you can always add a case fans in the future, go for Noctua's case fans if possible

I spent less on processing and more on the GPU, and bumped up things a little with storage, case, and fan. Is a GTX 970 good with this CPU? I looked at a few stuff on the R290, and while it's slightly cheaper, it seems to be louder and a worse performer. Not going to overclock since it's a little risky and I'm not into doing things like that right now. By the way, how useful is a fan? Where I am is pretty hot, so I do want a fan for the case.

- GTX 970 is better than 290 and on par with 290x but is cheaper than 290x.
- yes the 4460 + 970 will be fine
- that fan will be used as intake fan for better airflow ( intake front/bottom + exhaust rear/top ) but its not really that useful, no point spending money for it when you can just add one later on, the surrounding temps in my room are around 25 - 35+ degree C and i still get avg temp of 55 - 65 for cpu and gpu on high load, im using stock coolers and 1 rear exhaust fans which comes with the case
- the cooler master JetFlo case fan is also not bad

One last thing. The case supports 970s but it says that it will block drive bays. Since I have a usb disc drive, I won't have to worry about that, right?

you will have to take out the discs cage to fit in a GTX 970
