Hi Folks,

Thanks to tax season I'm getting an upgrade budget (Read: Nice tax return)...

My current rig is just not cutting it any more and it's time for a new one...

My old system is:
Athalon XP 3200+ (running at 2.42GHz, 220X11)
1 GB Cosair XMS 2337
1 Seagate 7200.7 120 Sata I
1 Seagate 7200.8 160 Sata I
Audigy 2 Platinum (I am an electronic music producer...)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256 (405/380)
DFI NF2-R board

Now I'm keeping that system as a web server, recording station for my turntables, I just wanted to show you my prefs for parts.

Now, here is what I am thinking about building for my new box. I would love for suggestions on where i could save cash. My budget is about $2500 (CND $) so about $2000 - $2200 US.

MoBo: Crossfire capable (I'm an ATI guy) I was thinking DFI, but what does everyone else think, also how close is the new ATI chipset to being available, and would it be worth it to hold off?

CPU: Opty 180/170 And then Clockedl :D (what is the proper stepping code for these?)

Ram: OCZ or Corsair DDR 400/450/500 2225 timings (but capable of handeling the increased FSB from the over clocking)

Case: Thermaltake Tai-Chi (with the liquid cooling for the CPU, would this be adequate for clocking the Opty?)

Video: X1900XTX

Hdd: 2 X Seagate 7200.9 250 GB Raid 0 (striping)

Sound: X-Fi (top of the line one) I may have to wait for this and save up again.

Optical Drive 1: LG SuperDrive (DVD R/CD R)

Optical Drive 2: LG DVD ROM

I'm not going to be push any extra voltage if I can help it as, I want this baby to last.

So let me know what you think/where I should make changes. However my choice of Video card maker is firm, I want an ATI based card. (Not an ATI board, just an ATI chip... Most of my cards have been Sapphire cards)

Thanks,

Dan

i'd be tempted to get the Saphire board off of zipzoomfly.com, they've made great video cards, and this one has alot of potential for overclocking.

Hi guys, thanks for the compliments on the system... I asked a few questions as well, like will the tai-chi's water cooling system be good enough to cool an overclocked Opty?

Can anyone see any other pitfalls I may encounter?
