I'm wanting to upgrade/ build my own gaming PC. My friend gave me his old gaming PC, and from here I want to upgrade/ build upon it. Its a mid sized tower (thermalake I believe), and I bought a thermalake 750watt PSU 6 months ago or so, as well as purchasing a GTX650. The GTX 650 is fine, but the CPU, and RAM is utter crap. Also, my friend gave me an 80gig HDD for the OS. I have an external 500gb for everything else, though. Currently running XP SP3, I am also curious if anyone thinks simply getting a newer OS would help my computer. A friend is willing to give me windows 7 pro for free.
Things I am looking to do with a budget:
-get a much better processor/RAM. This thing can hardly run graphic intensive games, and have multiple tabs open on the internet.
-Get a 2-300 dollar GPU. I have been studying them for a while, and the r9 270x looks appealing to me.
-8gb ram. Either 1600, or 2133.
I'm not necessarily looking to future proof this machine, just to make it marginally better than ps4/Xbox one.
I live very close to the northern virginia micro center, if it helps price hunting at all.
As far as practicality goes, I would like to potentially be able to stream current gen games in HD. I currently play WoT, which my little gtx 650 can run at max settings, but around 17-30fps. Having facebook open brings this closer to 17.
So far I was thinking an a8 6600k with an MSI a75ia-e53, but I read somewhere the motherboard complains, and there is a process to get it to even accept the a8.
I should add this upgrade process can happen overtime, I currently have about ~250 ready to spend on upgrading something, but I am not certain where is best to start.
Current specs:
And phenom II x2 550
3.11 GHz
3gb ram
Thermalake midtower
Thermalake 750w PSU
Nvidia GTX650
