I'm building my first PC and i have a few old computers lying around. The most current is the HP P6774y. It has the hp aloe motherboard and AMD Phenom 2 x4 820 CPU. Is this motherboard too outdated? If so what motherboard should i get that will still run my CPU. I can donate a couple hundred a month to this effort. I have a Silicon Power SSD that i put in my laptop and i bought 2 Seagate 1tb SSHD's. I have a few older CPUS too. The first power supply i bought was junk. Apevia Venus VD500 watt. it popped as soon as i plugged it in. Im pretty new to this and any advice would help. Where do I start

Solution
If you pay more than $3 for either an FX8350 or 9590, you're getting ripped off.
Old, obsolete, substandard CPU's.

Don't bother.

Build up a whole new PC, with current generation parts.
Yeah that CPU and Mobo are both outdated, you'd be best off spending money on a Ryzen 2600 and compatible motherboard, or if you don't have a budget for a graphics card on top of the CPU even a Ryzen 2200G or 2400G with Vega graphics will be a good place to start. You will also need DDR4 RAM, which even now will be a big chunk of the budget, around 100 USD for 8GB.

As far as power supplies get something like the Corsair CX450 (not the one with green lettering) or CX450M or there 550 watt versions, they are decent budget powersupplies that are routinely on sale.

if im outdated what about the amd fx 8350 or fx9590 i can get either of them for around 100 but idk if they are going to be competitive for long. Any suggestions on motherboards? i want something that i can continue to use for as long as possible. and yes graphics card will have to wait

No they are different sockets and use different RAM DDR3 vs DDR4. If you are spending 100 dollars on a FX8350 or 9590 you are getting ripped off, a used FX series should be at most 50 USD probably less if you look around and at 100 they simply are not a good bargain for the performance you'll get.

This is about as cheap as you can go right now

alright thank you very much for the info. i personally want a atx instead of micro atx because of the ports and possibilities but the one you posted will support up to ryzen 7? or threadripper? why is the ryzen 3 quad core 3.5 better than the fx black series 8 core 4.7gh thats where i get confused. whats the difference? and i thought am3+ was backwards compatible with am3. can you point me to a place where i can learn about this
