Building my first PC

Aug 23, 2011
I started out just wanting to upgrade my current PC. Sadly, it's a Dell, and one that doesn't have a lot of upgrade options at that. So I figured I would just build a new computer.

Looking for advice on what I've chosen to put into it. I'm a gamer, MMO's and high end games. I'm wanting this PC to last me for sometime with the option of upgrading in the future without breaking the bank right now.

Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+ AMD 990X SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Graphics Card: EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1502FAEX 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Optical Drive: Just using the one in my current computer.

Power Supply: Trying to decide on this still (any advice on this would be helpful)

Sound Card: Not going to worry about this until a later date

I'll be learning a ton about computers (I've already learned a good bit just from searching for parts) while doing this, watching videos of builds and such. So any helpful information anyone has for me will be greatly appreciated.

I usually game at 1680x1050 resolution.

My current computer specs

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz

Motherboard: ASUS M2N61-AX (designed specifically for Dell)

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT

Memory: 4GB DDR2

Hard Drive: 1.5TB

Power Supply: 300watt I think?

My budget is trying my hardest to stay under $800.

Well, when a certain MMO comes out I may be hooking my computer up to my television for 1920x1080 resolution.

Also, I'm stupid. I was thinking about my work computer (which sucks). My resolution at home is 1680x1050 if I'm not mistaken.

I would get this GPU instead. It has a little lower perfomance than 560ti but also costs ~40-55$ dollars more! And It will tear appart everything at this resolution :D
