I am going to build my own PC soon, and I want to know the best quad core gaming processor i can get, for around £350-£385, or roughly $550 (not the exact conversion, because parts are cheaper in America) I want it to be the absolute best gaming PC for that price range, AMD or Intel, I am not bothered. Thanks

For that budget you cannot get an intel quad core (i5). Your best option is to go AMD (I'm thinking about FX 6300). I'll suggest you a build that is slighlty over your budget but It will give the maximum performance for the price.

P.S. You can fit the required budget by picking a a single 8gb DDR3 stick (about 5-10 pounds cheaper, but you will in run single channel instead of dual channel; you can always add more RAM later), a cheaper GPU ( I suggest a gtx 750 ti which you can find around 90 , altough the one suggested is best for the price). Later on you can add an SSD. For a slightly higher price on the CPU you can goo with an FX 8320 which will give better performance but I will take another motherboard for that (still cheaper than an i5 build).
