so i recently purchased some very expensive hardware but my house is sh*t and every room is carpeted exept bathrooms and kitchen which are to small.
i also took a look at the new graphics card earlier and im wondering if its damaged from touching it?

Solution
Never work on carpet. Handle cards by the backplate or the edges. Follow MuzzleBraker's advice. Only way to know if the graphics card still works is to test.
Anti-static wrist strap is a necessity on carpet (well, not technically but it helps more than you can imagine). There's a difference in your feet being on carpet and actually assembling he components directly on a carpet. Put it together on a cardboard box. You can wear something like flip flops or go bare foot on carpet (both options better than socks) but make sure to wear the antistatic wrist strap. Attatch it to the metal computer case while the power supply is in the computer and plugged in (but set to the off position).

Source of knowledge: I work on carpet.
