Build Advice Building New Gaming Pc- need advice

My Pc just died and I need advice for a new rig. It’s been about six years since I built my old one. I’m mostly lost in regards to what processor to get. Back in 2014 intel was still king.

My budget is ~1000

I plan to reuse my gpu - XFX Radeon RX 580 8gb 256bit GDDR5

I plan to use my new rig for gaming and everyday use. Need help on figuring out CPU, Case, Ram, motherboard and Power supply. Also, l‘m thinking of having a NVMe for my primary drive. I plan to use a water cooler btw since my old rig had 1 and I’m now partial to them. Thanks in advance for help.

Went with a Ryzen build, they are far better price to performance and quite honestly so close to Intel anymore that the additional cost of Intel is not worth it IMO. Didn't include a case since that's personal preference. but you could easily get a 50-100$ case (IMO over 100 dollars on a case is a waste) and then still have money to upgrade your GPU. I also gave you a less expensive SSD. The 970 are great, however for gaming and generally use you will never see the performance of the drive and it's a waste of money.

Made a few changes let me know what you think. Also site says there’s compatibility issues with build. Also thinking of reusing old case.

That's a BIOS warning. However chances of getting a out of date BIOS are low. And if for whatever reason the BIOS is out of date the motherboard I choose allows for BIOS updates without a compatible CPU installed so you can update it quite easily.

One last thing, that AIO is not very good, really non of the 120mm ones are. either stick with the stock cooler included with the 3700X or get a 240mm AIO.

I would think you should be able to reuse your Windows key. I would try that before you go and buy a new copy.

Granted mine is on an AIO, but the 3700x really doesn't need it. Mine was a leftover from my previous 6700k build, so I reused it. A good air cooler is sufficient. I have heard the VRM's, on that board, are quite good. I just avoid Asus, due to horrible customer service/support. I modified your build, on how I would go about it. Ryzen likes fast ram. I am using this same ram, with my Gigabyte X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI. Rest of my rig is linked in my sig.

So, Rig is up and running. I'd like to thanks everyone for their help. I had a problem creating a boot drive from my Usb but turns out I didn't need to. I entered my old win 7 key and it worked since my old SSD had windows loaded already. I would love to clone have my OS to M.2 drive at some point. My old SSD is only 120gb compared to the 1tb on M.2 drive.

If, anyone have any thoughts on a good way to clone drive. Please let me know thanks.
