[SOLVED] Building new PC using AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

Hi,

I was using intel processor since last 8 years. I mainly use PC for 3D modeling, rendering, graphic designing. Now my motherboard is not working.

Now I want to upgrade my PC with AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor because of its number of cores, threads & low cost.

I cannot but X570 chipset motherboard because of its high price, so I was thinking of buying B450 chipset AM4 motherboard i.e. MSI B450M PRO-M2 motherboard because I have read that I can update BIOS & use Ryzen 7 3rd generation processor.q

But I don't have old AMD processor in order to update BIOS, does this motherboard allows BIOS update without inserting old processor on motherboard?

If I update BIOS, will Ryzen 7 3700x work on MSI B450M PRO- M2 motherboard.
I will be using my old Graphic Card i.e. Gigabyte Geforce GT710.
Will this graphic card work with AMD processor & above mentioned Motherboard?

Or

Should I wait for few more months till motherboard companies release motherboard with latest BIOS with Ryzen 3rd generation ready.

If there is any other motherboard (B450) suggestions that works with Ryzen 7 3700X let me know.

The MSI B450 Tomahawk supports USB BIOS flashback without a CPU installed, I'd recommend that board. One thing though, does your 3D modeling and rendering use a lot of GPU resources? If so, I'd highly recommend upgrading to any new graphics card like a RX 570/GTX 1650. Even this RX 550 for $85 would be a good upgrade Newegg RX 550

The $85 B450M Gaming Plus supports USB bios updating without a compatable CPU in case of the board shipping with an incompatible BIOS.

BTW, you will need ddr4 ram for the 3700x.

The GT710 will work with the newer platform, however, I'd suggest upgrading it, especially if your 3d modeling program can leverage the GPU for rendering.

Looks like you could possibly save money by going with Intel... if you don't need the GPU upgrade. But that ASRock board may or may not work with the 9th gen CPUs out of the box.

I agree with they others. If you do 3D modeling upgrading the CPU will not help you very much if you stick with your old GPU. You can look for used graphic cards on Amazon sometime you can find good deals. For example at the moment I write this comment there is a GTX 1060 for 128$. Ok it's only 3GB but the point is that used stuff can be helpful if your budget is limited.

My 3 d modeling & rendering is not using GPU that much as I was putting full rendering load on processor.
I was using intel core 2 duo 2.6 GHz with 6 GB DDR 3 ram. Now my motherboard is now working.
I know this setup is not good for this type of work, as it used to take me more then 5 hours to render 4K image. So I was rendering only during night & go to bed. I am using this graphic card because I am not getting enough time to play games.

I will upgrade my graphic cards after few months. Now I am looking forward for upgrading processor, motherboard & ram.

If you can’t afford the X570 just get a 2700. The spree of 3rd Gen Ryzen is helped a lot by the X570 chipset.

The X570 chipset is better only because of the PCIe 4.0 full support and so far there is no real application that really use its potential. Buying a X570 is good if you have the money and want to be future proof but it's not going to improve performance at all (for the moment).

You can buy a 3600x too. It's cheaper than the 3700x and will do the job. Actually even a Ryzen 1700 would be a huge upgrade if you currently have a Core 2 Duo. And as I said, look for used deals on Amazon if money is really a big issue for you. Of course it's going to be difficult to find a 3000x one because they are new but there are plenty of first and second generation Ryzen chips at low price now for the same reason (people want to upgrade to the third generation and sell their current CPU).

No it will not. The 3700x will be faster wathever the board you have. And tests showed that the chipset doesn't make much difference in pure performance. A 3700x will perform the same on a x470 board than on a x570 and of course will be faster than the 2700.

You’ll probably be fine with a 2700. It costs a lot less, you don’t need the more expensive boards or a new Max board for it to work out of the box and it’s not much slower than a 3700X

Nope. It would brag about it on the front page if it did.

The cheapest board i know that has bios flashbacm is the $85 msi b450m gaming plus. Its a well rounded budget board.

I have successfully built my first custom PC.

Thank you to all for helping me in choosing correct components for my new build.

I bought MSI B450 Gaming Plus instead of B450M Gaming Plus, because of its 64GB RAM Capacity & Dual Graphic card slots.

After receiving Mobo i reset BIOS by using both the methods i.e. by removing CMOS battery & connecting screwdriver to CMOS jumper.
Downloading latest BIOS from MSI website & writing it to USB 3.0 16GB (SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 ) & pressing flash BIOS Button. (Flash BIOS works with USB 3.0, 16GB)

With GT710 Graphic card,
Now my PC is working fine, with latest windows 10 built and AMD drivers.

My 3 d modeling & rendering is not using GPU that much as I was putting full rendering load on processor.
I was using intel core 2 duo 2.6 GHz with 6 GB DDR 3 ram. Now my motherboard is now working.

As compared to my Old PC this new PC is like Ferrari.

I took a Render test on new PC by rendering 6000 x 8000 pixel image with same render settings, light conditions, camers, etc.

Time taken to render
Intel Core 2 Duo = 5hr 09min 42sec (Old PC)
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X = 0hr 24min 58sec (New PC)
i.e. 12.3 Times Faster.
