Hey all, first time posting although I do browse around from time to time.

Anywho- building myself a new rig in the next month for a game coming out (FFXIV) and I've already settled on most of the guts.

CPU- AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
Mobo- ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 Motherboard LINK
Power Supply- 750W
Memory- DDR3 4GB

Big question posed to all of you guys is, what should I do for a GPU? My budget is around $200-250 however I would prefer it to be on the lower end. Would there be anything better for the bang than the ATI 5770 for my buck?

The HD5770 is a good card for the money but it is actually $150-60. In the price range you actually stated the GTX 460 is the way to go.
Also the native resolution of your monitor is important when picking out a video card so tell us that.

Thanks for the advice so far guys, to answer the questions posed so far:

1440x900 for awhile, but later on (like 4-5months after game release) I'd probably get a higher RES monitor after I recoup some funds after this build.

As far as what brand the PSU is, I haven't decided on that yet, I was figuring 750W would be a good range for what I wanted to do now and in the future. If you have any suggestions on that as well, I'm all ears.

THIS my friend is a BADASS PSU:

As for the GPU, i would go with the 460, mostly due to the fact that you'll be upgrading the monitor in the near future, so, the 5770 would get a higher impact on performance from the higher res.
Hope this helps! :D

lol
I love how everyone likes to spend other people's money on the most top of the line components :p
That PSU certainly is great but it is also very expensive. Something half the price would do just as well for a GTX 460.
BTW that is what you should get if you plan on upgrading to a 1080p or higher monitor in the near future. The HD5770 would still be alright but the GTX 460 will be worth the extra money. The 1gb version would be best but the 786mb version is also a good value.

Haha, you do have a point. You could get by with a Corsair 650W non-modular and still have room to upgrade.

Thanks for all your help guys, sorry I haven't replied sooner (work and all that jazz). Would any of you recommend a specific branding for the GTX 460 1GB? I noticed a few of em' on newegg, although most of them are sold out currently.

Yeah, Newegg doesn't seem to have a lot of the 1gb cards left so I would go elsewhere. This place has the Gigabyte card at on alright price;

The cooler is supposed to be pretty nice and quiet and it allows for voltage control of the core for a higher overclock.
That said as your board isn't SLI the 768mb version of the card would be a good choice as well if you would like to save a bit of money. The performance difference between the two models is only 7-8%. For that 768mb card I would go with either ASUS or MSI;
