Building own laptop/tablet

Okay so I wanted a challenge. I am going to be building my own laptop/tablet type of computer. I will be building my own case for it, and buying all components from scratch. I have only build desktop computers before, so the laptop/tablet field is new for me. I have a couple questions which I will list below; any help would be appreciated.

1. Best material for case/ any other cooling tips? The easiest for me to cut would be some sort of metal, but I don't want it to soak up all the heat and overheat.

2. Best lcd screen that has good compatibility? I would like something between 13-17"

3. A motherboard that will work with the screen above.


I should be able to figure out everything else. Again, any help or tips would be greatly appreciated

1. People don't build their own laptops or tablets, they have zero modularity outside of RAM and HDDs.

2. At best you can only make a custom case for an already existing laptop, because you won't find any new or recent generation laptop motherboards on ebay/ect like you can for older stuff. You can find older generation motherboards, and older replacement LCD screens, maybe replacement keyboards too.

3. Desktop components do not work in laptops. Every piece of a laptop is specifically designed and engineered to all work together.

There are no generic or easily interchangable parts for laptops. What you can do is take some broken laptops and put together a working one. You can't buy a motherboard from an MSI system, a Dell case and an HP screen for example since 95% chance no two and 99% chance no three components will line up for hardware or software together.

If you want to build a case, get a laptop, remove it from the case and build a case around that.

Every so often there are posts like this, there are no real ways of doing it at home. It's not like building a desktop when there are 30 vendors you can pick from to get a case, motherboard, video card, etc... from and pretty much every part has standard connections and spacing.
