Building pc. Please help!

I'm building my first pc right now and after I plugged everything in and went to turn it on nothing happened. I then unplugged everything, tested my psu using a paper clip and I plugged in my case fans and they both turned on just fine. I then plugged in the motherboard and tried to turn the fans on again but I got nothing. My power supply fan didn't even turn on. Is there something wrong with my power supply or my motherboard?

Considering that is a well known poor quality unreliable PSU , that would be my first suspect
