I'm fairly new to building computers, and I built a gaming PC that worked perfectly until I attempted to upgrade the CPU. I wish I never would have, as that upgrade ha knocked my PC out of working order for the past 4 months. I originally had:
Ryzen 5 2400g
8GB Patriot Viper RAM (Red)
ASRock B450m Steel Legend
Integrated Vega 11 Graphics
Old StarTech PSU
OWC Mercury 6 Extreme from an old MacBook
This setup worked fine, I eventually added more storage, RAM, and a Zotac GTX 1060 3GB Mini. I then decided to upgrade the CPU to a Ryzen 5 5600, but I forgot to update the BIOS to work with the new 5000 processors. When I installed it in the Steel Legend, something happened that permanently bricked the motherboard.
I was then forced to get a new motherboard, I chose the MSI B550m VC WIFI for its BIOS Flash feature and it's debug LEDs. I installed the 5600 and... nothing. The CPU debug light was on, so I replaced it. TWICE. I went through 2 AMD RMAs and the same result occurred both times. I did flash update the BIOS several times as well throughout the entire process of upgrading.
My current situation
Ryzen 5 5600
2x8GB Patriot Viper RAM (Red+Steel)
MSI B550m VC WIFI
ZOTAC GTX 1060 3GB MINI
Corsair CX750m PSU
