Hi guys,

I use my computer 12+hours a day, mostly for gaming. My budget is essentially limitless, I don't mind spending alot for quality pieces. New build should preferably be able to run VR smoothly.

I want to get into VR gaming, but the CPU requirements for the HTC Vive are more than I have atm, and my motherboard&RAM are as old as my CPU, so I will have to upgrade those aswell to be compatible with new CPU. Will also need to buy new cooling for CPU.

Have decided on the i7 8700k for CPU, looks to me like the best CPU outside the very expensive i9's, which I don't think will be necessary for me.

Rest of my system is;
GPU: Geforce GTX 1060
Harddrive: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB
PSU: Not sure which brand/model, but it's 580W
Case: https://gyazo.com/8502afce160ec72d081b6549d37b30e4 - Identical to this, XPS 8100

Current CPU: Intel Core i7 860 @2.80 GHz
Current Motherboard: Dell studio XPS 8100 (not compatible with i7 8700k)
Current RAM: 8GB DDR3 (i7 8700k needs DDR4)

Looking to upgrade motherboard & RAM to something compatible and on-level with i7 8700k, and buy a cooler for the i7 8700k.
I'm also unsure if my PSU is powerful enough for the new components and I'm unsure if a new motherboard & CPU cooler will fit in my pretty small case.

If you need any more information, let me know and I will try to find it.

Any help and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated :)

Hey, Thanks for the answer!

I have progressed a little bit after posting this, and have a pretty good idea of all the pieces I want to get.
Alot of them are similar to what you suggested.
The build I'm planning on getting atm is this;
CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
Motherboard: Asus - Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Power Supply: SeaSonic - FOCUS Plus Gold 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Case: Fractal Design - Meshify C TG ATX Mid Tower Case

- My case atm is mATX and has very very old USB 2.0, so I figured I should upgrade that aswell, to be up-to-par with the rest of the system after I upgrade...
I would go with something like this. You can spend more money on a better motherboard, but it will have diminishing returns. The Asrock Extreme4 is a quality mid-range motherboard.

I like the Cryorig H5. It has good performance for good price. You could drop $80 on a Noctua cooler, but he cryorig is very good for half the price.

I suggest on getting a new PSU if you don't know what your current PSU is. A faulty PSU can damage your components. 550 watts will be plenty for a 8700k and a 1060.
