So my friend wants me to build him a computer and I'm not entirely sure what his budget is so I'm going for under 500. It is going to be mostly for school work and some mild gaming. He has a ps4 for most of his gaming needs. Possibly home theater stuff also.

This is what I got so far; http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/WnwRMp

Thanks

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/DgfN99 - EDIT: Just changed the mobo to an ATX motherboard so it doesn't look so odd in the case!

Also for extra silence take the fan off of the heat sink! Just tell him not to overclock it. A CPU upgrade could be an option at a later date with a 4490S. (I5)

A suggested gfx card would be a GTX 660 as it is a cheap performing little monster!

hope I helped! (also use DVI-I for the time being)

If you're not getting him a GPU, I would say get an FM2 socket motherboad with an AMD a-series processor. I have an A10-6600k, would recommend getting a less powerful one since he already has a PS4 because it runs really hot so you would need to spend money on a cooler.

Edit: message me if you are based in europe and interested in buying my used CPU, im planning on an upgrade.

So my thought is if he wants it for home cinema use he could put a semi-decent sound card and get away with not really having a graphics card involved. My suggestion would be this

I will also link audio equiptment which means this system will holla the dolla!

Notes:

The reason this costs ALOT is due to the fully 5.1 surround sound/immersion of this build and the smart TV which can even replace the computer with services such as netflix and freeview.

The amp can connect to the soundcard in the computer via seperate aux leads I.E Centre sub and rear. It also gives by far a better sound than average on board.

Another suggestion to replace the sound card would be a Roccat Kave XTD which is an external sound card and headset which I personally use.

A GPU can be added at a later date on a different PCIE slot.

All the best - Oh im from the UK so don't kill me for the UK links :3

if you are not getting a GPU, then AMD is better than intel for integrated graphics solutions.

if you get a good PSU and case for him now, with an AMD a8 / a10 CPU, fm2 motherboard, all he would need is a new motherboard/CPU +GPU to make it a better gaming machine than the PS4 in the future.

I actually agree with 20Salmon, You should see if you can do a mixture of my build with an AMD CPU/mobo with an A10 apu which at a later date COULD be crossfired with a 260X if needed.

The reasoning for my build however would be that it is a fully silent build, or as silent as possible with the Heatsink not even needing a fan.

I would reconsider the psu maybe however for something such as a Seasonic with hybird control
