Can anyone recommend some good vendors that allow you to build your own desktop PC?

I am interested in both good prices and also getting an older motherboard perhaps or having the freedom to choose my own components that aren't necessarily the ones that are the newest. In other words, freedom of choice to build my own desktop the way I want.

Do you recommend Dell, or New Egg, or anything I haven't thought of?

Thanks.

Depends on the price, really. Most system integrators don't have older stuff, however. If you want to build an older PC and don't want to do it yourself, your best bet is to find a local PC shop that's willing to assemble parts you bring in for them, which will likely involve some calling around if you don't already know one.

If you have a microcenter near you that’s where I’d check. As far as older components most retailers aren’t going to do that. Microcenter has a stock of last generation am4 stuff though and could likely make a good deal on those types components that might be last generation but still new.

I think they will assemble for $150.

As far as if you’re wanting something older or think you can save on older hardware, check on eBay perhaps check some local computer shops also. Some of them may sell old systems and be able to upgrade one for you.

I assume you're saying you don't need the most powerful new processors, rather than saying you want really old components?
Most retailers only keep a couple of generations of components, but within each generation there is a massive difference between the entry level and the top end, in both price and performance.

If you don't mind buying from different sources, and having staggered delivery of items, use PartPicker.

It let's you build your system from available parts, (you can filter and sort) will warn you about any incompatibilities, and also gives you the power requirement.

When you build your system on the site, it defaults to the best price from among a number of sources, and has a "buy" button that sends you right to the appropriate shopping cart.
