I built a new PC mostly from scratch today. The only parts I didn’t buy stand-alone were a pair of DDR4 2666Mhz sticks made by Micron and an i7-8700, both of which I took from a prebuilt I had.
Unfortunately, there seem to be some problems. For one, the only RAM slots that are working are the 3rd and 4th ones. I have tried both RAM sticks in all 4 slots and only those two seem to work. Whenever I try to put the second stick of RAM in, the DRAM debug light comes on solid for a few seconds then flashes for a split second to the CPU before going back to the DRAM light.
Second, something that’s very strange which I don’t understand is the motherboard tried to boot up from a hard drive which had no OS on it instead of my SSD. This caused a problem where Windows would try to “repair” the disk but just ended up giving me a “recovering” loop. This was “solved” by me disconnecting the HDDs and leaving only the SSD in. When only the SSD is in or I specify every time I boot up that the ADATA Drive is the boot drive, things seem fine aside from no Ethernet connection.
And third, my Ethernet cable isn’t being recognized. So I have no internet except Wi-Fi which isn’t exactly ideal.
I’m really hoping the motherboard isn’t fried somehow because that would really suck. It took me a long time to build this thing, I really hope I don’t have to send the motherboard back to Amazon then reconnect everything all over again 🙁
