Built a PC, MOBO has Power, but Nothing Else does :(

Firstly, any help anyone can give me would be GREATLY appreciated here as this is so stressful.

I just assembled my PC and the little green light on the motherboard is powered on, but there's no power anywhere else.

---------------------------------------------

My setup is:

PSU: CoolerMaster 500W GX-Lite (as a side note, this was the part from my previous pc which I know works - but, is it compatible with the below additions?)

CPU: i5 4460 (this was bought second hand from CEX, could be a problem, but I'd want to rule everything else out first)

CPU Cooler: T 212 EVO

GRAPHICS CARD: I have ommitted this as I don't think it's necessary. But it's a GTX 970.

Motherboard: z97-GD65

RAM: 2 x DDR3 CORSAIR 1333zh

Opitcal drive and HDD.

-----------------------------------------------

The connectors I have in the motherboard is:

1) 20+ 4 pin connector for the power to the motherboard (this one is very, very tight when I insert it, and difficult to get out)
2) 4+4 pin connector for the CPU power (this one is also difficult to get in/out. I'm pretty sure I'm using the right one because the only other cable left is the ones for the GPU)
3) CPU fan into CPUFAN1
4) Hard Drive and Optical Drive into the SATA Ports
5) USB cable into USB1
6) AUDIO Cable into Audio1

------------------------------------------------

So I've read lots of articles and researched what could be causing this as well as thoroughly checking the manual. The steps I have taken so far is:

1) I have reset the CMOS by taking the battery out for 10 minutes and putting it back in. Also by pressing the CMOS button.

2) I have breadboxed

3) I have checked the CPU for any bent pins.

4) I have checked under the motherboard to make sure the offsets are in the right position.

5) I have tried just one stick of ram in the first ram port.

--------------------------------------------------

I have just a few questions. Would that PSU even support all of this? You know the CPU power cable? It has squares and also cornered boxes? These ports don't match what is on the CPU power on the motherboard. Some are squares when they should be some rounded squares.

Are all my parts compatible?

I cannot even post!

Thank you so much.

That is a very confusing part. First you say that you managed to get the 4+4 connector in (although barely), then you say that the cable pins do not not match. Which one is it?

It's both. The pins do not match exactly but they go in reasonably fine - it might be nothing, for example picture a square but with the top left and top right corners rounded. Some of the connectors on the cable are "top rounded squares" and some are completely squares if you see what I mean?

Sorry for my poor explanation. Please see below for the links i included in a later post.

My connector is this: https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQQ2SRCPyJzy5ASakRSOUqYTWJJOzq6EIQ9WoSze8Bz5HmlK7oC

and the one it (maybe should be - i don't know) is this: http://image.dhgate.com/albu_221579378_00/1.0x0.jpg

The reason for the "squares" and "rounds" is to key the cable - it cannot fit any other connector except that one on the mobo. The very fact that you managed to plug it in means it is the right connector (well, 2 connectors to be precise). You don't need a different one.

What you do need is to check your PWR_SW button wire from your case to your mobo. Is it connected correctly?

Maybe not. That's one thing I'll definitely try when I get back from work.

should they be that tight though?

Would the power button be neccessary to have any activity, yeah?

Yes, cables need to be tight.

Power button from the case needs to be correctly connected to PWR_SW pins on your motherboard according to manual. Otherwise you won't even be able to power it on. There is no "activity" I am aware of, except pressing the button 😉

Cheers herrwizo, I'll let you know how it goes.

I've tried all of that but nothing is working.

Can I ask you a question?

I'm using the only wires on the PSU that has CPU wires (all the other ones are being used currently).

My motherboard slot is shaped like this:

My 2*4 pin is shaped like this:

[)[]
[][)
[)[)

My understanding is that the motherboard is asking for an EPS V12, and I have a pcIe cable.

The question is, will my 2*4 (which makes up a pcIe I believe) be compatible with the motherboard slot posted above even though the modules are different? If not I'll have to get a new PSU. I currently have a Cooler Master 500W GX-Lite

You don't have to push all 8 pins in, actually. Only 4 of them are absolutely required, and the other 4 are used with CPUs of 125W TDP or higher (or highly overclocked CPUs). Try with only the first 4 pins.

A second PSU is advised at lest for test, though - this one is not too good quality after all.

I'm at my wits end with what else to try here, I've done everything I can think of. My PSU was working fine in my other motherboard. Don't know what to do...
