Built custom PC: Will not turn on!

This is my first PC build in about 8 years and I am having some trouble getting it to boot. When I hit the power button the fans kick on for 1 second then turn off.


Specs:
Processor: Intel i-5 (4430 I think)
Motherboard: Asus B85M-E/CSm
HD 1: 150gb (planing to load windows 7 via usb)
HD 2: 1tb
Ram: 8gb (2x4 ddr3)
Power: LEPA N500

any suggestions?

That usually means that the mobo is not probably connected to the power supply. Check the cables to the MOBO.
It also can be that the CPU is not working but check your power cables first.

I went through all the cables twice and they are all connected properly. I definitely think its a power issue.....

I am checking the CPU now

CPU is installed properly.

Power supply is connected via 24P main power connecter. (does it need another cable?)

Does it matter if the ram is in the Dimm_A1/Dimm_A2 or Dimm_B1/Dimm_B2?

(The last time i built a computer a pentium III was "top of the line")

Yes, it needs another power connector. Step #2 in the checklist is the most common mistake. The system will not work without the CPU power connector plugged in. It is either a 4-pin or 8-pin connector located near the CPU socket.

CPU 4 pin now connected. The fans will no longer come on for even a split second.

The 8-pin connector on most power supplies is a 4+4 pin connector that can be split in half. If that's not the case with your power supply then I guess you can use an adapter. I would be surprised if you can't split the connector, though.

According to a friend.... My cpu is part of a new line and my power supply is not compatible

The incompatibility he's talking about just means the CPU can't utilize its very deepest sleep mode. Your motherboard likely has disabled the C7 sleep state by default, so the PSU should still power the system just fine.

Did you see if the 8-pin connector can be split in half?

Are you sure your motherboard model is B785M-E? I can't find anything on Google for that model number. Who is the manufacturer of the motherboard?

I did split the cable and still no power.
