Built my own computer a few years ago, now helping my friend build his. The parts he ordered are from: http://pcgamehaven.com/best-gaming-pc-build-under-600/

Motherboard is: Gigabyte GA-H110M-A
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0165YUDTM/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3DRD2WX13H6ZQ&linkCode=sl1&tag=bm070f-20&linkId=8b65465d0690d6e6882919a74ef2da30

CPU is: Intel i5 6400
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010T6CG7E/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&linkCode=sl1&tag=bm070f-20&linkId=6a139ebba00f7ab2a3d8d9ce4cf66e7e

GPU is: MSI RX 470 Gaming X
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JS9F9K4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&linkCode=sl1&tag=bm070f-20&linkId=25b316be5aeafaf38a99086fb9e70961

PSU is: EVGA 600W B1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EON40CS/ref=as_li_ss_tl?redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&linkCode=sl1&tag=bm070f-20&linkId=0927fd513ad207147cec995bf5a5b36b&th=1

First problem came from when the power was plugged into his mobo's 24 pin. It never turned on. The only way to get power running is by hooking up the PSU's 20 pin into an adapter and then hooking the +4 pin into the mobo's 24 pin. 2nd problem is no HDMI signal. Tried the GPU and mobo hdmi port, set the monitor to the only HDMI source it has, and nothing. 3rd problem is the power button on the front never worked with power. The only way to actively turn on and off is from the switch in the back. I followed the front panel connectors to a T from the manual. Unless they misprinted the information.

My diagnosis is the mobo or PSU is faulty. Any help is appreciated.

Makes sense. I've never heard of a 24 pin not working in the mobo. Do you think he should try replacing the mobo as well or just replace the PSU first and see what the result is?

Replacing the PSU, I'll keep this thread updated on what happens with that. Thank you.

Update: Got the new PSU, set it up and ... still the same problem. The only way it powers up is by the 20 pin put into the adapter, 4 pin into the 20+4 pin motherboard. I'm assuming by now that's the only way this setup gets power is through an adapter. Now the main issue is still no hdmi signal. Monitor is on the right source so no clue. Anyone got any ideas? My friend's setup is in the first post.

Try turning on with no GPU installed and with 24 pin harness.

Also reset CMOS according to mobo manual just for a clean slate.

If 2 PSUs can not turn on that board with the 24 pin connector with no non-essential devices plugged in then I am starting to question the board.

Do you have any other video output (like VGA or DVI) you can try instead of HDMI?

Power doesn't turn on when connected with no GPU installed. Reset CMOS, still no power. He does have DVI but no cable that can hook up to it. I surmised that the board was either DOA or we didn't ground ourselves enough when setting it up. The mobo needs to be replaced. Can you recommend another one just to look at different options? I'm seeing the Amazon reviews for this mobo that he got and there's quite a few complaints about DOA as well as on the newegg site. I've looked up a few in mind already.

This for example however is there something cheaper? .. I guess the cheaper ones are more susceptible to DOA.
