Actiontec C3000A Router / Modem

Playing with setting up the VPN. All the online guides are very similar and I think I followed the instructions correctly. Getting Error #868 "Name of the remote server name did not resolve."

When I setup the new connection, I input the IP of my router. Is this correct?
EDIT: When I use online "What is my IP", is the reported IP the one I should use, or do I use the IP which would access the router settings?

Are there possible router settings not described anywhere that might be the problem?

A lot of folks seem to have had problems with this. I didn't find any "Solved" reports out there.

i am not sure what vpn you are talking about. looking up the modem i don't see it having one built in and i know win 7 does not.

can you provide some more info so we can possibly figure out what you are working with and what might be going wrong.

a link to the guide you followed would also help shed some light on what you are using.

Here is one of the pages I referenced when setting this up....

During Step 2 of the process, one must input the "Internet Address". I am not 100% sure on which IP the setup is asking for.

You enter the endpoint of the connection (the address of the site you are connecting to). You must create a separate connectoid for every single site you wish to connect to if using the built in client. And, as said below, the other end must also be hosting a vpn connection else you have nothing to connect to.

ok i see what you are looking at now. i wasn't thinking of that piece :)

that is to connect to a vpn server you have access to. for instance working remotely might require you to securely log into the work network. so they create a vpn server for you to connect to.

that will not do what you are thinking. you need a vpn service if you want a vpn. things like nordvpn and the 1000's of others out there.

i use fast vpn myself. it's pretty cheap and lots of servers to connect to.
