Hi guys,

It's been about 7 years since I've built a PC from scratch, so I'm kind of rusty, but putting the PC together went surprisingly well. The issue is, I'm not getting any video output and the five beep POST error code which usually means that there's something wrong with the CPU.

When I disconnect the GPU, I don't get a post at all. I'm not sure if you need a GPU to initiate the POST because the motherboard doesn't have any on-board video. I've seen other threads mention compatibility issues between the msi 970 and the fx-8320 but you would think that I'd at least be able to get into the BIOS. Here are my parts:

FX-8320 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition
MSI 970 Motherboard
EVGA GeForce GTX 960
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3
Corsair CS Series 650 Watt ATX Modular and Efficient Power Supply CS650M

If you guys have any ideas I'd greatly appreciate some input.

P.S. I did go through the troubleshooting checklist.

I fixed it, but I can't say that I understand it lol. What I did was I bought a cheap $10 graphics card that just had a single vga port and plugged it in and removed my Geforce GTX 960. I still got the five beeps but I was able to see the bios and install windows. After installing windows, I shut it off and hooked up my GTX 960. Now it runs smoother than a fresh jar of skippy!

Tried using just the one stick of RAM and no dice. Still getting the five beeps. I have a replacement CPU on the way to try, but I'm not convinced that's going to fix it.
