Burned motherboard ground wire?

I installed a nerlw CPU cooler about ten minutes ago and when I powered on my rig there was a burning smell and smoke. I quickly powered the board off and removed it. On the underside a wire looks like it burned off. It looks like a ground to me. I have another board coming in the mail soon, but for now I need to know if it is still relatively safe to used this board if I cover the ground with electrical tape. I do not believe anything else on the board was damaged. The link below is a picture of the burned part.

Okay, after some tinkering I found out what the burned wire was. Right now I have a different processor, a different GPU and a different PSU all hooked up to the motherboard. The new cooler fan was shorting out. I have re-soldered the burned part and covered it with electrical tape. Everything is fine.

But damn, that burning PCB smell lingers, don't it?

That's not a wire, that is the soldering trail that burnt off so that board is pretty much dead.

That soldering trail was only to provide power to the CPU fan. Like I said, the new cooler fan was shorting, I just tested it. I soldered some heavy gauge wire to what was left and taped over it and everything is fine now. Mobo has been running for about 25 minutes now, and I'm typing this reply on it as well. The parts in it right now are ones I don't care about as much in case something does happen. I'll run it all day and see if anything goes wonky, but temps are low AF right now, 36C on the CPU and 35 on the GPU.

It ran last night without issue but the CPU fan stopped because of my terrible soldering skills (or lack thereof). I put my Core 2 Quad back in and it's idling at 37C.

For those of you who are having similar issues you can try taking the board to a professional. My board is an average of $129 (still).
