Question Burning short videos to E: drive with DVD-R disc problem

I am trying to burn 4 g of short video to a DVD-R disc. I know the -R means write on it once only. That is all I intend to do. The disk is brand new, never used. But when I do either a copy and paste to the DVD or if I use the right click on the E: and "Burn to Disk".. both ways it says....
There is no disc in the DVD Burner
Please insert a writable Disc into drive E:

There is a brand new disc in the drive E which is where I am burning to... so... why do I get this message and how do I deal with it?!

What software are you using to burn?

I use SoThink and converted it is .AVI and also left it as mp4 and also used just the "copy and paste" procedure to c&p from hard drive to disk and also tried the right click to "burn to disk". I get the same thing on all of them

It is also saying the disk is "write protected" when I click "Burn to Disk" ....and it isn't. It is a new box of DVD-R's.
