A few days ago my computer emitted a burning smell from, and felt fairly hot (compared to the usual temperature. I took it out and dusted some parts, except the heatsink, and turned it back on. While on basic things like YouTube and regular internet browsing, the smell is either dialed down or not there, and it feels normal temp., but I tried playing Sleeping Dogs and the frames went from 50-60 to 25-40, which has never happened. To my surprise, the game also crashed about 10 minutes in, and that has never happened before either. Any suggestions? Here is my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/q4sPJV

Bad power supply can cause issues with other components, not just directly on the power supply, just like a match will set other things on fire other than just itself. For some reason 90% of the people that try to build a gaming computer always cheapen out on the power supply, without a good power supply you are just risking every other part.

This is my first build and it has lasted about a year (since Christmas). That's a good assumption but I've checked my computer a billion times and saw no plastic parts

Your Raidmax power supply is likely the culprit. I wouldn't trust any power supply made by them. Does the smell come from it? I'd replace it with one of these quality units: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/KQPcxY

I know it's pretty bad and I'm replacing it soon but the psu isn't very hot and it doesnt smell directly from there
