Burning smell installing ram

Hi guys

I was trying to install ram into my motherboard and noticed a burning smell after doing so, so now my pc won’t turn on, is it my power supply or motherboard that’s dead? Just replaced the power supply a few months ago

Can't believe it. Are those actually SODIMM modules you are trying to use? Like this one:

If so, no wonder you got smell, you burned either RAM or RAM slots. It is NOT compatible. You need a classic DIMM module (240 pins), not SODIMM (204 pins) which is designed for laptops and considerably shorter physically.

If it looks like the one on the image you posted, then you probably just connected it incorrectly (not fully). But in the model you indicated, "pc3-10600s-9-10-b0" letter "S" after 10600 indicates SODIMM module, not a regular one. Can you post the actual picture of RAM modules? That would clear up things a bit.

Either you didnt plug it all the way or the ram stick was faulty and burned itself.

My pc isnt powering back on though so is my motherboard fried?

Try clearing cmos, unplug PC from wall with switch switched to on, remove shiny battery, press and hold power button for 30s~, plug back battery, then plug back pc to wall and try to power it up, the PC should power up regardless of the ram is it into the slot or not, first try without ram, then try ram into slot that wasnt that ram into it.

Also check for Ram slot pins if they are blacked out.

There’s no power going to it all, have tried leaving it off for a while then trying again with no luck, should the power supply work even if the motherboard doesn’t?
