Hi Tom's Hardware community!

update: So it's not burnt, I used an eraser and the brown stuff comes off nicely. I've uploaded a video showing what happens with the actuator arm when I connect the HDD to power. Any idea what the issue could be?
Actuator arm shown here

I have a HDD which I've not been able to access for a while, and today I decided to take a chance to open it up and troubleshoot it! The first thing I noticed was that the access (actuator) arm starts moving back and forth once the disk is started up. Then eventually it parks and the HDD shuts down. I took a look at the PCB and this is what I found.

I noticed that brown area at the bottom right. Is that a signed the PCB has been burnt? If so, I'd like to try getting a replacement PCB to rectify it.

The brown color on the PCB is most likely flux from soldiering....nothing looks burned to me...that being said, it doesn't mean the PCB is good....if you find an exact make/model match HDD, sometimes you can switch the PCB and access the drive. There will be a chance that the drive mechanical parts (spindle, heads, motor) could be damaged and the PCB is working.
