Burnt smell, PC doesn't turn on, mobo gets energy. Dead CPU? Dead mobo? Both dead?

I'm a newb to these forums and I know only a thing or two about hardware. I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

So, here's what has happened: I was watching a movie, and then I decide to go fetch something on the fridge. As soon as I come back, the PC is off and there's a strong burnt smell. Since I live in Brazil and it is pretty hot over here, I do assume my coolers didn't stand the heatwave and my PC, well, died.

I tried leaving it and trying again, resetting CMOS (via jumper and by taking off the battery) and nothing happens. I've taken the processor out and there's no sign of anything burn in it (I couldn't see any black pins on it). The motherboard's power LED does turn on when I turn on the PSU, but when I hit the power button, nothing happens.

Are there anything else I could try to troubleshoot it? Is the CPU and/or mobo dead?

My motherboard still has a valid warranty, but I don't want to RMA it if it isn't necessary. I don't have a spare mobo or CPU to test it.

SPECS:

Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T @ 2.8Ghz (completely stock)
RAM: 12GB DDR3 1333Mhz
VGA: XFX HD7950 3GB GDDR5
PSU: Sentey 650W

Is it possible that the PSU is dead, even though it does light up the motherboard's LED when I turn the PSU on? I'll try opening it when I get home.

The smell comes straight from the mobo's socket and the CPU.

At the time I was using the stock cooler, and there was plenty of thermal paste.
