But windows 10 IS activated

During the summer I got the free upgrade to windows10 from my already activated copy of win 8.1. Everything was all hunky dory until today when it said that it wasn't activated. So I tried the code that I used for the 8.1 activation and it did not work. What the heck Microsoft? Thought this was a free upgrade. Is there anyway that I can activate it without rebuying the os? And if I cant, is there a way to get rid of the stupid watermark?

well u can roll back to Windows 8.1.. No need to reinstall there's a way check the settings..
and after that I would install Windows 10 again and update it..

Contact microsoft telephone activation line and get thru to a person and explain the problem

Original win 10 could not be activated by win 8 or 7 key
Latest iso can be not sure what happens to existing upgrades

Where did you get your copy of 8.1? I have seen case where someone bought a cheap copy of windows for a site like g2a and it worked for awhile but was eventually deactivated as the key was not legitimate.
