What does CW tell us about price changes at the launch of a new card, X8000? Trying to figure out if I should buy a 9800 Pro now, wait for a price decrease in a week or two, or just wait for the X800? Any ideas you all have are greatly appreciated. Time to replace the GeForce 2 MX.

My impression from all the posts/articles I have seen to date, is that there are no clear answers to your questions. Personally, I am going for one of the next generation cards once they hit the stores.

You can only answer that if you figure out how much you are willing to spend. If $200 is about it, the 9800Pro now is a safe bet. You can't beat it and eventually 9800 Pro's will be gone. Then again, if you are willing to spend $400+ then waiting isn't bad either. Considering your's current video card, a R9800pro or even R9600pro would be a huge upgrade. What is the rest of your system like. No need to put a $400+ video card on a 1GHz Tbird, PIII, or a sdram Willamette P4 system.

I get 40% off list (so 9800pro ~ 150 + shipping). When the X800 comes I get the same but may have to wait 90 days from the release to order...so basically it comes down to whattaya think the list will be for the X800 ($300?) and is the price difference + time to wait really worth it? I have no problems waiting if it is, but I guess I just want to make the smart decision.

BTW, I have a Dimension 8200 w/P4 2GHz Northwood, 780 Rambus, 80Gig 7200 RPM, SoundBlaster Live, GeForce2MX400/64, and i think that's the most of it.
Edited by gowens on 04/26/04 09:14 PM.

Eh, 9800Pro for around 150? Will it really fall that low?
