Hey guys,
I am not sure if either of INTEL or AMD willl bring out any new CPU's in this year. So far it looks like the first one who will bring out newer ones is INTEL in 2024 as AMD has just recently brought out its new X3D series.
So buying a 13900 now will not make me regret it!? What you think?
Not wanna get mad if they then release an 14900 in the next couple of months out of nowhere.

Thanks

They ARE going to release 14th gen in the next 3-6 months, called Raptor Lake Refresh.

Don't believe the <Mod Edit> like "just buy now" narrative, at least not in this particular case if you can wait for 6 months.

Now, whether or not it's going to make you regret buying now depends on the pricing. If they use the same pricing as the current CPU (more likely), then you might regret your current purchase. But, if it's more expensive (less likely), then you won't.

If you wait for the next best thing, you will wait forever.
New products will have better price/performance than what they replace.
Otherwise, why bother with new products??
Then, also, if the new product is dramatically better, early adopters will pay a premium.

If 13900 is what you need now, buy now.
If you are debating 13700K or 13900K or whatever, I suggest buying the better product to reduce chances of buyer remorse.

Just pick one and go.

My X3380/P45/GTX295 lasted 14 years before I replaced it with a 12900ks/z690/3090Ti. Then low and behold the 13900ks/z790/4090 came out.

There is always going to be a newer better. 👍

There is always going to be a newer better. sure
But that is not the point of such questions.
Its a difference if you buy gear ow and in 1 to 2 years something better comes out. You were 1-2 years not in the spot to worry about newer better.
But if you buy something and then right next month something newer better comes out. Not only is your new gear now old. You probably spend more on it than if you have just waited a month.
That is why people generally ask such questions.
I bought more than 20 PCs in my lifespan now. Sometimes I bought a GPU and 3 months after the next generation came out. Too bad.
Then I bought a CPU and it lastet over 3 years until I had to replace it with something faster. Lucky!
If you are a min/maxer like me, such things are more important.

Then if you want to be on the bleeding edge, then wait until the bleeding edge comes out and be the first in line to get it.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Hahah... I honestly had no idea the 4090 was as good as it was until I stumbled across a review on it in early April. How many months prior to that did the 4090 release? For many months I was busy at work and hadn't touched the PC all that much.

Anyway, can't say I was first in line... I was more late to the party... but I'm here now and am enjoying it. 🤣 🤣

In my opinion, high-end CPUS are very similar whether AMD or Intel (except for AMD's X3D series for gaming). I always pick parts on sale so whatever you can find available on sale, pick it up as it will be a better deal than either upcoming newer CPUs and also better than the current competitor.

I'm in a similar boat while also looking to upgrade my sons PC too.

I have a DDR4 Z690 and 12900KS and looking at the 13900KF. Yet motherboard makers are soon to release new LGA1700 boards with higher power for the cpu adding much fuel to the rumor that Intel ARE going to do one last CPU upgrade for the socket. Hence I'm doing my best to hold off and see what the new chips will do....

Might seem mad but as well as maxing our my board for the next year or two it gives my son his next processor and if I upgrade my board to a later Z790 DDR5 (or whatever there is at the rime) he then has my board and processor for his rig 😎

I'm waiting a little bit on the 13900k as well, though I'm waiting for the Assassin IV and MA824 to come out anytime now. I'm hoping one of these air coolers will be able to surpass the cooling prowess of the DH15 or Peerless Assassin.

What have you heard about the new LGA1700 motherboards? Will it still use Z690 and Z790 chip sets? Can you share link?

I get the feeling the 14th will be the new 11th gen waste of sand ..

Im not quite sure what Intel are trying to do they seem to be trying to leap frog AMD with the 15th gen by refreshing the 13th to 14th ..

But its still going to back fire on them when the 8000series drops which i have a serious feeling AMD will not allow the 14th to be out long before the 8000series drops so once again intel will be left with its pants down with no answer then the 15th will be followed by the 9000series on the AM5 platform ..

I suspect the better option would have been for Intel to release the 14th with a bigger leap in performance change the socket go all ddr5 and stay with the socket for longer than 2 years ?
( socket life is what is hurting Intel every time )

The 13900k is already the best overall cpu you can buy ( even if toasty ) whats the 14900k going to bring by competing /beating their own product ?????

look at it this way 14th 14900k comes out before the 8950x then like i said the 14900k is only competing with the 13900k ( already the best ) then the 8950x beats the 14900k whats the point of the 14900k ( my logic ) NOTHING !!

Personally id go the stock 7950x for the AM5 platform ..
the 7950x3d is not as good and the cheaper 7800x3d is the better cheaper gaming cpu !
( if gaming is youre only thing )
The 13900k is the best overall cpu on the market as of today ( apart from Intels terrible socket life span )..
Ask yourself what board are you using now..

I dont know will the 14th be ddr5 only so will all the ddr4 z790s be boat anchors for 14th????

Alot of people could be finding their DDR4 z790s useless for the refresh !!

That could be a massive screw up if for Intel they make 14th DDR5 only on the Z790 boards ( begs the question why not just move to a new socket anyway ) there will be alot of DDR4 z790 owers out there thinking of the 14th gen upgrade which could possibly be a new mobo purchase anyway !!

Then how long with the LGA1700 socket with 14th be viable till the 15th 1 or 2 years ..
rumors suggest AMD will be dropping the 8000 series in 2024 at some point anyway so !!

The thing that annoys me is , usually if one of them is chipset/socket-wise ahead just go with the newest one and you'll be fine. But my issue is, even though right now AMD has the newest one, its flagship is not really that much better fps wise than an older 13900. Thats my whole thing why I didnt already go with AMD. Also the fact that INTELs platform way better utilisizes RAM clockspeeds. They are OC wise easily at 7000 up to 8000. AMD meanwhile is somewhere in the low 5000s or 6000s.

the 13900k is overall still the better cpu ..
The 14th i believe is going to be a waste ..
Where you win with AM5 is socket life.
My interest lies with the RAM speed too on AMD will there be a bios update later to remove the 6400mhz limit on the AMD boards for the 8000 /9000 series cpu's " who knows " maybe AMD are going to work around the thing that the timings are more important than speed !!
As of now cl30 6000 is AMD's sweet spot and there is little to no gain with 6400mhz !!

Well lets say I got with AMD cause of the Socket with the goal to maybe upgrade my CPU in 2 years without changing the Motherboard.
Will the DDR5 support, the speed and everything still be enough of a Motherboard for the AMD socket I buy today for an CPU I might buy in 2 years from now!?

Like worse case scenario would be in 2 years AMD CPUs support 8000er DDR5-Ram with a new chipset and I can not profit from that with a new CPU cause I have an old motherboard who can only hold the new CPU but not the new standards.
