I am going to overclock my first system and I need to know if a p4-2.8c or p4-2.8e runs cooler than the other when clocked up. I plan on using corsair-pc500-pro on a p4s800d-e with a coolingfan on the northbridge.

i would of thought the 2.8e would run hotter i have a 2.8e running on p4s800d. atm im running at a steady 36c idle with no OC in place, im not using stock cooling as i thought that was shite and am now using the hyper6

If u do things right.... People won't be sure you've done anything at all......

The new Sony Viao "R" series feature Prescotts in that range(2.8/3.0/. They are all water-cooled! Guess which chip runs cooler?

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4 - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

the 2.8C is faster and cooler than the 2.8E, and most p4C's overclock well also

That's a great number, with of course the best P4 cooler! But I've been suprised by the number of Prescott users reporting decent idle temps in the Newegg reviews. It seems a lot of folks report mid 30'sC to 40C. Not bad considering I'm running at 41C idle overclocked.

the newer SL7 steppings for prescott have improved D-0 revision. which means better lower temps and higher overclock. Look for those specs. I'd say go for the 2.8e prescott.
