Im thinking of buying a 780 ti now i have the money but i dont know if i should save up for a few more months to see if the 800 series is any good or even if the 790 comes out (which is probably highly unlikely) also from what im hearing the 880 will only be £400-500 and right now the 780 ti is 500.

880 is coming out in late september, confirmed by Gigabyte. So just wait like a month and more and you'll be saving money ;)
780 ti prices will drop inevitably because 880 is going to be considerably cheap.

Sorry, gonna steal this thread a little but when will the non-reference 880 come out?

Do you mean aftermarket versions? Normally a week or 2 after release

Non-Reference cards are released by manufacturers like EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte etc not by nVIDIA.

Non-Reference is used in two terms: Cooling and PCB. In terms of cooling non-reference cards will be released sooner than later. Probably in Oct-14 subject to release of 880 in Sep-14.

In terms of Non-Reference PCB or Custom PCB, it will take some time before manufacturers release these cards.

Should I just buy the reference PCB's? Will they be good enough and not overheat?

Beauty with Maxwell series is their energy efficiency. Hopefully, you would have checked 750/750Ti. They don't need dedicated 6-8 pin connector from PSU but draw power from PCIe slot (75W). How much will 860-880 cards will require is not known at the moment.

Non-Reference PCB cards have shown a great overclocking capacity with 3rd party cooling solution. However, time will tell about 800 series. Pl wait for them to be in the market and make available for review.

btw guys, 790 does exist in the Titan Z- it is the successor the 690. and doesn't evga make stock cards ( Non-ACX models with single fan?) with reference design? . so don't get the 790 as it costs nearly £2.5K which is stupid. and will the 880 be under $500? or should I stick with getting an Asus R9 290 DirectCU II OC for $370?
