hey guys im from brazil, and im buying a new PSU, my current one is 7 years old and only 500W, and im upgrading to a RTX3080 and using psu calculator i need about 605W, but searching for PSU prices i found a XPG core reactor 650W for (630 reais - 120 dolars) but the 850W version is (650 reais - 126 dolars) is there any benefit in buying the 850W version the price is really really good and i only need the 650W version but i know basically nothing about PSU so is it better to buy the 850W version?

Solution
Processor:3800X, ATX motherboard.
Gcard:1070 - going for a 3080
Storage: 3 512Gb SSD, and a 2TB HDD
The 850 watt could work but from professional reviews it has poor 12 volt regulation so not sure how it would handle the RTX voltage spikes.

EDIT I would probably look for a Corsair RM850x some times you pay for quality to protect the rest of your investment.

The 650 watt is not enough power the 850 watt could be what processor are you using?

thank you so much ill definitly take a look at the RM850x, or even a better one 100% agree with you on protecting the investment, no need to save on a PSU when in spending so much in the other components.

The Regular Rm is fairly good quality also and cost a lot less than the RMx and should run that fine.

Note the link to the RM says without power cable so you would need a decent one of those.

But if in budget get the RMx it's one step up.

thank you so much for the help! just a small question for the power cable, should i use 2x separate 8pin cables or can i use only one for the 3080? also im building a RTX 3070 build for my brother should i use 2 cables (one 8 pin + a separate 8/6 pin) for it too or one is enough (a single 8+8 cable)?

The issue with the 30 series cards is the transient load spikes, which have been noted to be anywhere upto 70% additional of the load and 10ms long. Which means if you were gaming at a toasty 500w load, you could see occasional 850w spikes. While normally a 650w is plenty for a 300w gpu, for the 30 series cards, it's instant, repeated bluescreens or shutdowns.

A really good 850w, or very decent 1000w is recommended minimums for a 3080.

Always use dedicated cables if possible , never use hybrid cables unless there's a must-do situation. 1 port, 1 wire.

thank you so much, really solid explanation, makes more sence now why people would recomend 1000W or even 1200W PSU for the 3080 since a 650W PSU would definitly shut down if it peaked 850W usage even for a milisecond, and thank you for the cable explanation will definitly use 1 port for one wire.

That is a bit misleading the RTX 3080 is more in the 500 watt area but that is just for a fraction of a second. A quality power supply can most of the time handle a good bit more than it's rated watts for a short period of time before the OCP trips it.

Some power supplies just trip out some of the Seasonics among other had that problem.
