Really, any free anti-virus is more than enough. Anti-viruses that you pay for will have more features from the free version, but you can easily get those for free as well.

Avast premium security for example includes a RealSite detector, sandbox and Firewall. However, you can find free programs/extensions for these without any issue. Any good free anti-virus paired with an adblock and script blocker is more than enough for many people.

Defender is free, unobtrusive, and reasonably good.
And... it is free.

What normally doesn't come with a free one is the "Active protection" you get from the buying one.

Like Fileguard, behavior blocker, anti-ransomware, surf protection.

I use Emsisoft and I pay like 30 bux a year for it. I like it so far.
