Question Buy or DIY Digital Photo Frame ?

I want to have smart digital photo frame.
I have already old Samsung SPF-105P with video input over USB port.
I have Raspberry Pi 2 and few old routers and android smartphones.

What do you think about do it digital photo frame with this components or better is to but something like Amazon Echo Show/Google Nest/Lenovo Display, or something different ?

I want to use for this local storage (don't want to store my privat photos on cloud). But will be nice to share photos with photo frame by using for this my android smartphone.

With solution can you recommend for this ?

Why?

Some years back we purchased a nice Kodak digital photo frame. For a number of reasons the "novelty" wore off and the photo frame fell into disuse. Gathered dust in multiple locations either directly or in a box.

Actually I just unboxed it again - still works but the reconfiguration etc. made me remember why it fell into disuse.

Using a Raspberry Pi 2 gives you the option to repurpose it and the other items when the "photo frame" is no longer wanted.

And building your own gives you full control of what the photo frame does. Too many devices as of late seem to default to going out into the cloud and do not make that activity clearly apparent.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
