Buy the GTX 1080 or wait for VEGA?

Should I wait for the VEGA or buy the 1080? Heard that the VEGA will have the same performance but will be cheaper.

It's a big unknown at this point as to actual launch date and pricing. Nvidia will likely launch the 1080 Ti to counter Vega as well. I can tell you the 1080 is a great card This is coming from 970 SLI.

it is quite a dilemma, buy now or wait, when the new cards are released wait again and see what the 1080ti is like then wait again to see what AMD puts out.

The longest I'll wait for is until January/February because that's when Kaby Lake releases. I can't get the 1080ti, too expensive. The 1080 is my max. I wasn't really planning on getting VEGA either. I've had my mind set on the 1080 for quite a while now and I kinda don't wanna bail on that idea unless the VEGA is really worth changing my mind.

I'd also like to buy my gpu relatively soon so if there isn't much info justifying that the VEGA is better, than I'll just stick with the 1080.

it really depends on your monitor resolution and refresh rate for gaming. I don't believe in spending a bunch of overkill money on video cards since the tech changes so fast. Some people say well if I only need a GTX 1070 but spend the extra 250 bucks and go ahead and get the 1080 then it will be longer before I need to upgrade again. That true but not true. You can also look at it like I can get the 1070 save the 250 extra bucks then 2 years from now sell the 1070 add the extra 250 bucks and buy a better card than the 1080.

Yeah that's true. However, I'm going for 1440p and the 1070 is more for 1440p/60hz gaming while the 1080 is for 1440p/144hz gaming. Looking to either buy the Asus PG279Q or the Acer XB271HU.

On a side note, there are rumors swirling of an AMD surprise announcement or actual launch of the RX 490 in December. It could be either a dual-GPU RX 480 board or possibly Vega.
