Hello everybody,

I thinking about upgrading my monitor after I've upgraded my GPU.
I was using a 970 and I moved to the 1660Ti couple with a i5 8600k.
Currently I have an Asus 23'' IPS 1080p, 4K is probably an overkill so trying to stay with 1440p and 144hz.

First things first, will the 1660Ti be enough for 1440p? I believe it should be, maybe not for all games though and I could possibly upgrade to 2060 dunno though if it'll be really worth it.
Secondly, regarding the monitors, since I like to play FPS I'm looking for 144hz. AOC seems a good comprise in quality and budget but what about other good options?
For now I don't have a specific budget, I'm exploring several options and then think about it so you can advice in different price ranges.

I've also noticed that most of them are at least 27'', my set up is very close and I think it would be too big already with a 27''.

Thank you very much.

For monitor I have just bought one of these https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gl83a-b I managed to get it for £419 and I am very happy with it. I mainly play FPS too.

For GPU I think a lot depends on how happy you are to turn down game settings. I am running a 2080 Super and in COD MW if I turn the setting close to max I average 80+ fps but can easily get much higher by turning down settings a little. Its similar with Gears 5. These are the 2 games I have mainly played with my new setup.

Thanks.
MW runs very smoothly at 1080p at max now. RD2 is more sloppy due to poorly optimisation. Outer worlds runs at max, gonna try RE2 later on. Yours is a 27''. How close are you to the monitor?
Do you think a 24'' is pointless at those resolutions?

Just remember 1440p is a lot harder on the gpu than 1080p. 1440p is an increase in pixels to render of 78%
1920*1080 = 2073600
2560*1440 = 3686400

I cannot say I have tried it but 1440p on 24" seems pointless. I sit about 18 inches away from the screen when gaming and probably 24 inches when doing other things.

Unfortunately, you’ll not get 144 Hz at 1440p with that GPU. I have a RX 5700XT and have two monitors- a 32 inch 1440p 60 Hz and a 24 inch 1080p 165 Hz. For slower paced games I use the 1440p monitor at 60 Hz. For games like CSGO and Forza 4, I use the 1080p monitor at 165 Hz. I Have a ASUS VG258QR which is a fantastic monitor in my opinion. And whatever you read about a high refresh rate monitor until you have tried it for yourself, you won’t realize the difference between 60 and 144 Hz is night and day. In terms of size, 24 inch is the biggest I’d go for 1080p. For 1440p, some would say that 27 inch is the biggest but it’s worth noting that 24 inch 1080p and 32 inch 1440p have the same pixel density.

Thank you all for the answers.

I might think about upgrading both gnu and monitor at this point then.
1440p 144hz I think is more future proof than 1080p, I could go for a 2070? or 5700? as a replacement?
I use my pc also for multimedia, like youtube and film while I'm in bed so that's why I would like to upgrade my resolution and I play also RPGs or single player games.
On the multiplayer side, MW and Borderlands 3 are my mains right now. For MW especially it would be nice to hit 100+

ps: enjoy your holidays
