Buying a laptop for a civil engineering(structural) student

What are the things to be considered when buying a laptop for a structural engineering student? What about VGA and RAM?

If I am going to buy a toshiba laptop what would be the best model to buy? Please help. Thanks in advance.

if he is going to run C.A.D. you should consider getting one with a firepro or quadro graphics card. These are more expensive than a normal laptop.

I don't think you should buy anything before actually knowing which programs you'll have to use.

Also, I think that workstation laptops are waste of money for students, as they certainly will not use them up to their full potential.
