Buying a New Cpu. A little lost. Please HELP!

Going to buy a new CPU soon and i dont really know which one to get. i want to upgrade my AMD phenom 925 x4.
im thinking of getting a FX 6100 @3.30 ghz, would that be a good choice? or should i choose something else.

Oh, and i don't want to get an Intel because that would involve upgrading my motherboard, and its relativity new.

Have a look at the 1100t, others will say that the six core is useless but I somewhat like the chip.

You will have to do some shopping around to get these two chips but they are pretty easy to come buy if you look hard enough.

The fx 6100 would be an upgrade from your current CPU but as previously stated try to get either a 1100t or 1090t.

X6 1090t and 1100t are very hard (and expensive) to find now since they are out of production. I would get an FX 8120. Yes, its $50 more than an FX-6100, but is better in almost every productivity and gaming benchmark and with a moderate OC of 4.0 Ghz its a very capable chip. If you're not comfortable overclocking just get an FX-6200 (3.8 Ghz) and call it a day.

You didn't mention a budget limit but I presume you want to stay around $150.
Also, are you comfortable with overclocking? If so, then I would go with either the FX 6100 or FX 8120. If you are not comfortable with overclocking, then I would go with the FX 6200 or a Phenom II x4 980.

Another note: if you do decide on one of the new FX processors make sure you update the BIOS on your board while you have your Phenom 925 still installed. Your board will not support the FX without the BIOS update.

I'm jealous, wish I could upgrade my CPU also ... I'll have to wait until next year =(

It is built on the "thuban" 6X die and has roughly 80% chance of unlocking stable.
The 960T has no problem OC'ing to or past 4Ghz.

So basically you were considering a 4X and 6X CPU, this one has very good chances of being both at a better price than either you listed.
On the odd chance it doesn't unlock, oh well its still a 4Ghz + quad for $89.99

I run 1100Ts in my gaming machines...dont even bother to overclock...not needed..

Depending of what you are doing they beat all i3s , all i5s and most i7s ...

Stunning for gaming....

Hard to find but well worth it....

just make sure you have a VERY good PSU. those things eat up rediculous amounts of power when overclocked.
