[SOLVED] Buying a new CPU which one to choose?

Buying a new CPU + MOTHERBOARD + DDR4
So I come to 2 choices and not sure which one to choose.
The PC would be mostly for gaming.

1.

• INTEL Core i5-11600K 3.9GHz LGA1200 Box
• ASRock B560 Steel Legend
• Kingston DDR4 16GB 3200MHz (2x8GB) HyperX Fury Black RGB

2.

• CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (4.6GHz, 35MB, 65W, AM4)
• GIGABYTE AMD B550, AM4, 4 x DDR4, DVI-D/HDMI, 2xPCIE x16 , 3xPCIE x1, ALC887 , 2x M.2 , 4 x SATA, ATX
• Kingston DDR4 16GB 3200MHz (2x8GB) HyperX Fury Black RGB

It's pretty much a toss-up...they trade blows in most games.

11600's (as any Tiger Lake) are power hungry, if that's important.

It might depend on price and availabilty as the bad thing is 5600X's are often available only at scalper prices. Be sure to compare installed cost though; so include motherboard in your price comparison.

One good thing is you can game (poorly) on the 11600's iGPU until your GPU gets in.

They are more or less evenly matched with pros and cons but the 5600x uses less power to match performance and that is a significant factor...

The i5 for sure. You can expect approximately 5-10% better framerate in most games with the i5.

For gaming the single-core performance and intel's Turbo Boost technology wins out over the 5600X. Although it has more cores, they run slower than the i5. Since most games target 3 cores and we're only just starting to see games target 4 or more cores then the i5 will have the edge in games for the foreseeable future.

Not only is it a great CPU but the motherboard it goes in will get a 2nd and 3rd generation in a couple of years so you can swap in a beast to stay up to date later down the line.

They both have the same number of cores, both have 6. Are you sure you talking about Ryzen 5 5600X ?

5600x has better passmark score than the 11600k.


Just another idea..........

I would suggest getting the 10850k for 329 at microcenter if you have one close to you.

I mean them prices are good and offer great value.

Also for the ram I would suggest the Crucial 3600mhz CL16 its under 100 bucks, why go with 3200?

Yea you don't need 10/20 threads for CPU gaming for today, but the 5600x is super hard to find at times. 10850k is a lot better than teh 11600k IMHO.

Crucial ram is often over looked by people, this 3600mhz CL16 for 88-95 dollars is a very good value IMHO. I have used the cruical ballstix ram in quite a few builds, and recently just used it for 2 more builds. Always great, always runs the speed it says. Just great MICRON ram.

That’s the only game in that review where the i5 wins. In all others the 5600x either wins or it’s basically a draw. All those tests are done in a cpu bound scenario by using a 3090 @ 1080p

Not a single poster in this thread pointed out the fact that the 11600K is an unlocked cpu yet B560 boards don't allow for OC.
